After raising nearly $14000 USD on popular crowdfunding site Indiegogo the producers and team behind Pan! Our Music Odyssey were able to create a new trailer and more importantly screen the film for the first time in France.
The screening of the French version was highly successful with a full house and standing ovation.
The party after with the steelband was a blast and we have now got France television involved with us to help spread the pan movement globally.
A great achievement which will enable us to properly finish the English version of the film.
We would like to say a special thank you to all of those who have contributed, without your support this would not have been the amazing journey it has been!!
THANK YOU!!!!!! (more…)

A major feature film on the steelpan is finally in the works and the local team behind it promises that the quality of the production will serve as the ideal marketing mechanism for the universal advancement of the instrument, while giving T&T an easily recognisable brand. Pan! A Modern Odyssey, is the title given to the project conceptualised by music producer and publisher Jean Michel Gilbert and Dr Kim Johnson, a veteran journalist and author, under the banner of the Caribbean Music Group. Gilbert, the executive producer on the project, will double as co-producer alongside acclaimed french cinematic expert Barthélémy Fougea and Johnson. Johnson, the historical consultant on the film, is also the man behind the script which has been re-written no less than 15 times. A French company called WINDS will serve as the international co-producer. Action on the production comes three years after both Gilbert and Johnson realised they had a shared vision for an instrument they are passionate about and therefore made the conscious decision to enter a partnership.

Over three years ago, filmmaker and pan lover Jean Michel Gibert set about making Pan! Our Music Odyssey, a ‘transmedia project promoting the steelband movement internationally, with an 80 minute docufiction telling the human adventure of pan from its genesis through re-enactment stories to its propagation all around the world.’
Gibert and his team continue to work tirelessly to have the film and its message of peace seen and understood by the world. Approximately $50,000 / €36,000 must be raised in order to complete the film’s post production in time for its first professional screening on 26 June at La Rochelle, in France. Post production costs include an updated promotional trailer and package and accommodation for pannists from Trinidad and Tobago while in La Rochelle for the screening. The legendary composer and soloist Ray Holman is amongst those due to travel to France from Trinidad.

PAN! The Universal Call of the African Drum
“The devil’s music!”
That was the European, Christian take on the pagan, pulsating, infectious beat of the African drum. Its primal edge scared the living daylights out of them. It unleashed sensuality, social revolt and spirituality of another kind, something forgotten, primordial, Mother Earthly and definitely anathema to colonial values. (more…)
