Pan! Our Music Odyssey Movietowne Theatrical Release EXTENDED!
The groundbreaking locally produced film Pan! Our Music Odyssey has been held over for another week at MovieTowne Port of Spain because of the enthusiastic response from the public.
“Excellent,” “brilliant,” “brought tears to my eyes,” “made me proud as a Trini,” “should be in all schools,” were some of the comments heard at screenings at which the audience burst into applause.
From November 12 to 18, local movie goers can catch two daily screenings of the film at Movie Towne Port of Spain at 12.40 p.m. and 2.45 p.m.
Groups wishing to see the film in HD 5.1 can also book screenings with Digicel IMAX.
Starring are some of T&T’s best known actors: Che Rodriguez, Penelope Spencer, Conrad Parris and Errol Fabien.
The film’s hero is ‘Goldteeth’, played by emerging young talent Renaldo Frederick.
Pan! Our Music Odyssey also features some of the leaders of the steelpan movement at home and abroad, including Len Boogsie Sharpe and Phase II Pan Groove, Andy Narell and Birdsong, Trinidad All Stars, Desperadoes and some of the players and musicians who come from all over the world to experience our national instrument.
The docu-drama tells the fictional tale of Goldteeth’s involvement in the creation of the steelpan, woven into a present day look at the impact of the pan on musicians from around the world.
The film has been getting positive feedback via social media since opening at cinemas across the country on November 5.
‘People have been saying that the film made them feel a great sense of pride,’ explained Dr. Kim Johnson, Pan! Our Music Odyssey’s writer and co-producer, himself a leading researcher on the steelpan.
‘It started off slowly because so few local films make it to national release. But through word of mouth, it spread and started to grow and by the weekend audiences picked up. Some people got in touch to say they loved it so much they wanted go back to see it again,’ Johnson said.
A DVD/CD boxset featuring the film and soundtrack will go on sale on November 20th at stores across the country.
